The words for today are…..balloon and pilgrim.
God knows whats going to happen with this one…..probably another vector illustration! Time to think….
So..I’m working from home today,…I wont lie…its tough going!!!
When I was researching pilgrims I was thinking of doing a kind of serious image almost like the old pilgrim paintings, and putting the characters holding a balloon each,…but that idea was boring! I was then thinking I could do a little girl holding a balloon (something I hoped I would get to draw!!). So I played around in illustrator for a while….
…and so this is whats happening so far today! (The map in the background is not my work, I just wanted to see what it would look like!)
So….this is how today kinda went…
I wanted to use text for the background of the image,…so I used some stuff from the bible….then I wanted to layer it with a map….
And….after a few hours in illustrator I finally created the finished piece…..
…so thats it….am taking a break…will be back later with some aftertoughts!!
Afterthoughts: So again….another interesting choice of words…..I have a feeling this may not get any easier!!!
The final image shows a little pilgrim girl holding a balloon….simples!!!! I didn’t want that to finish it there though….I wanted more!!
Initially I had thought about creating a mixed media piece..where I could use a print out of words from the bible to make up her dress…but then I realised its just not that sort of image…and so I decided then I would use the words in the background somehow…its a kind of reference to pilgrims and how they believe in God and holy stuff!!
I then decided to use some sort of map in the background…I decided to layer it with the text and bring the opacity right down. The map was just another reference to a pilgrim who travels to holy places…hence the churches! But because the character was a little girl…I imagined the map to be more like a map from Winnie the Poo or something. I knew it would barley be seen once I bring the opacity down..so its not my best illustration work!
I added just two more layers to the image….as I was finishing…I decided to use grime vectors just to make it look kinda old!!
And then I was done!!!! Happy days!
Tools used: adobe illustrator (i so love the pen tool!!)
